Eyes: General Tips
Now, the first thing you notice about a person is their eyes, so, c’mon ladies, let’s make the most of them. Here’s how…
If you have small eyes, avoid wearing black eyeliner in your inner eyes as it makes them look even smaller! Instead, try wearing white eyeliner, so they look bigger and brighter. But if you wanted the “bold, black, smouldering eyes” look for a night out, but don’t want to look like Miss Piggy, wear the white liner in your inner eyes and outline in black eyeliner or eye shadow along your lower lash line. To top it off obviously we apply lashings of black mascara for a “look at me” kinda look, without looking like you’re squinting! Perfect.
Try wearing a light eye shadow, in, either white, gold or cream along your brow line and use the same colour to dab in the inner corner of your eyes to open them up like magic!
When curling your lashes, hold curlers for 20 seconds as close to your eyelid as you dare! Then move the curlers half way down your lashes and hold for another 10 seconds, then right at the tip for another 10 seconds. This way it creates more of a natural curl, rather than them bending straight up to your eyebrows like the Eiffel tower! Never a good look, let’s be honest.
When wearing eyeliner on your top lid, follow the line from your inner corner to the outer, but make the line carry on in little flicks at the end, for an extreeemely wide-eyed flirty look! (Eat your heart out Miss Aguilera!) As a guide, to avoid wonky looking eyes, the end of the flick should head towards the end of your eyebrow. We don’t want wonky flicks now do we ladies?!…
For a more natural look without baring all! Heaven forbid. Try wearing gold eye shadows close to your skin colour, then wear see-through or brown mascara with brown or grey eye liner instead of black. Subtle, but we know it’s there.
When mixing different coloured eye shadows on your lids, wear the lightest colour in your inner corners and brow line, then the darkest shade towards your outer lid and your lower lash line to frame those babies! Then try wearing an in-between colour from your crease line up towards your brow.
And the secret? Blend baby, blend!
When applying mascara, do the bottom lashes first! Okay, we’ve all had the specks and the smudges. You know what I’m talking about, the ones pebble-dashing our top lids, just below the brow line. Oh yes, we all know the ones. And let’s be honest, it’s gotta stop, so please, bottom lashes first yeah?
Right, there’s always been the same old debate here…
Do we, apply eye shadow first, just to ruin it by getting mascara specks all over it and having to re-do the little devils?
Or do we, apply mascara first and risk turning our eyelashes the same colour as our eye shadow just because they wouldn’t get out the way?!
Here’s the deal.
I say, you do the shadow first, then if you follow my tips on how to avoid the mascara smudges by doing lower lashes first, you won’t ruin it anyway!
And even if you did smudge the mascara cause you’ve had one too many or something, you can always cover the marks with another coat of eye shadow.
Remember, you can never have too much eye shadow, as it’ll blend in. But if you were to overdo the mascara by having to put yet another coat on as you keep smothering them in eye shadow, you do run the risk of looking like you have some form of wild plant sprouting from your eyes.
All eye shadows are now claiming to be longer lasting, crease-proof and all that jazz! But when it comes down to it, at the end of the day, they’re just trying to sell a product. If Mrs eye shadow doesn’t do what she promises on the packet, here’s how to make your shadow last as long as you do…
Wear a primer especially for eyes before applying the shadow to help it stick’n’stay.
If you don’t have the money to buy a separate primer, you can use foundation and powder as a base, which is equally as good. Also, try and avoid cream/gel-based eye shadows, as they’re sticky and tend to go mad on your crease line! Stick to powders if you know what’s best for you girls!
Don’t wear red eye shadow. Simple. Just don’t do it.
